If you are serious about your gym sessions and need a shoe that provides a rock-solid foundation for heavy lifts, the Under Armour Men's Project Rock Blood Sweat Respect 4 Sneakers is built for you. Designed in collaboration with Dwayne Johnson, this shoe is engineered for stability, grip, and the relentless intensity of the weight room.
Why the Project Rock 4 Stands Out
Training shoes need to be rigid and stable, unlike running shoes which need to flex. The Project Rock 4 gives you that unshakeable base for squats and deadlifts, while still offering enough flexibility for box jumps and HIIT. (If you need an ultra-cushioned, easy slip-in shoe for walking and recovery instead of the gym, check out our Skechers Summits High Range Review).
Key Features & Benefits
- UA Tribase® Max Outsole: Maximizes ground contact and provides a flat, stable platform so your foot doesn't wobble during heavy, concentrated lifts.
- Micro G® Foam Midsole: Offers a firm yet responsive cushioning that absorbs impact during jumps but stays stiff enough to support your arches when moving heavy weights.
- Hoop-Inspired Upper: A high-tension, lightweight upper with a midfoot wrap that locks your foot down securely during aggressive lateral movements.
- Blood. Sweat. Respect. Mentality: Not just a shoe, but a mindset. Built with durable materials that can handle the most grueling workouts you throw at them.
Premium Materials & Build Quality
Under Armour built the PR4 to survive the toughest training environments, from the weight room floor to the turf zone.
⭐ Upper: Lightweight, Durable Mesh & Overlays
Breathable enough to keep your feet cool during intense circuits, while the reinforced overlays provide the structural integrity needed to prevent foot roll during squats and lunges.
⭐ Midsole: Full-Length Micro G®
This isn't soft, squishy running foam. Micro G® is dense, responsive, and stable. It returns energy on jumps but won't compress under a 300lb squat.
⭐ Outsole: TriBase® Rubber
Wide, flat, and grippy. The TriBase geometry allows your foot to sit low to the ground, giving you maximum power transfer and traction on the gym floor.
Our Experience & Tips
After using the UA Project Rock 4 for heavy deadlifts, squats, and intense CrossFit WODs, a few things stood out immediately. First, the flat, wide outsole is an absolute game-changer for stability. When you are pushing heavy weight, the last thing you want is a squishy shoe that makes you wobble. The Project Rock 4 keeps you glued to the floor, allowing you to drive power directly through your heels. Second, the heel lockdown is incredible. The internal midfoot strap and the TPU heel counter lock your foot in so securely that there is zero side-to-side sliding during lateral box jumps or cuts. Our biggest tip: this is strictly a training shoe. Do not try to run a 5K in these. The firm cushioning is designed for lifting, not absorbing the repetitive impact of distance running, and you will destroy your knees.
Compared to previous models, the PR4 is much more breathable. The HOVR cushioning in the forefoot gives just enough energy return for short sprints and burpees, while remaining rigid enough for heavy squats. The Brahma web rubber outsole grips dusty gym floors like velcro. It is a tank of a shoe that feels like it could survive being run over by a truck.
What to Consider Before Buying
Before you buy the PR4, consider what your gym routine actually looks like. If you primarily do cardio machines or long-distance running, this shoe is a terrible choice. It is heavy, stiff, and lacks the flexibility needed for a natural running gait. It is built for the weight room and box jumps—period. Also, keep in mind that the shoe runs slightly narrow to provide that locked-in fit. If you have wide feet, your toes might feel pinched during long sessions, and you may need to size up a half size. Finally, they have a very aggressive, "tactical" look. While Dwayne Johnson would approve, they might look a bit out of place with casual street clothes if you plan to wear them outside the gym.
